Trapped on a Romantic Escape - Santorini, Greece

Due to high winds and stormy seas, Lauren and I could not get on our ferry and we were trapped on the beautiful Greek island of Santorini for two days. How awful! How could we cope?! Cheap rooms in the main town of Fira was the answer but with the unexpected stay, Lauren and I were able to celebrate a special moment with family.

Roughly 124 miles away on the island of Crete, my sister Hannah and her boyfriend Dan who live in the UK, were finishing up their holiday. Unbeknownst to Hannah, Dan had carried a diamond ring with him and planned a secret end to their time away. He and Hannah jetted off to the picturesque town of Oia, Santorini. With an incredible sunset view from their place and a private chef hired for the second evening of their trip, Dan had planned a special moment to be remembered.

While Hannah and Dan flew to Santorini, Lauren and I were figuring out where we were to sleep for the night. We grabbed a cheap room by the bus station and transferred our ferry tickets to the next day. While changes like this can be frustrating we saw it as the Universe giving us an opportunity to see Hannah and Dan the day before this special moment. We jumped on the crowded bus from Fira to Oia and navigated the small sprawling streets to find their private escape.

A luxurious spot, Dan had chosen the backdrop for the proposal beautifully. Hannah was still unaware of what Dan had planned for the next night. Thanks to the windy weather on that day before the proposal, we got one evening to see each other. With family living on different continents, it can be hard to keep in touch but its so meaningful to seize moments like these and savour it. At the time, Hannah was still unaware of the engagement ring Dan carried and the next evening he got down on one knee and proposed.

She said yes! Always good to have a happy ending to a story! Welcome to the family officially Dan, and to my sister Hannah, never lose your hunger for travel, you have a travelling partner with you now! Enjoy your engrossing upcoming trips to Budapest & Dubai planned for later this year and be sure to come back with some more stories.
